Event: Health Care Career Fair

This article appeared in an April 2017 issue of the student newsletter.

You’ve heard it before and we’ll say it again: The health care industry is booming! In fact, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that health care is the fastest-growing industry in the nation — creating over 22,000 new jobs in one month alone.

Network With Employers

Pairing job seekers with job openings, the Health Care Career Fair will return to Dallas this April. More than 100 hiring organizations will attend, representing 15,000-plus jobs in a range of industries, from allied and mental health to pharmacy and geriatrics.

Health Care Career Fair
Thursday, April 27, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.
Irving Convention Center, 500 W. Las Colinas Blvd., Irving, TX 75039
Note: The convention center is on DART's Orange Line.

Plan for Success

Before you head to the career fair, be sure to register online and gather all your application materials. DCCCD provides free career planning and job search services if you need résumé assistance or want to practice your elevator speech.

Seize the Opportunity

At most career or job fairs, those seeking employment feel like small fish in a big pond — there tend to be more job applicants than job openings. So you move from table to table, doing your best to stand out from the crowd.

At a health care career fair, however, the opposite is true — there are usually more job openings than qualified applicants. You are a big fish in a small pond, and employers will use their best bait to try to lure you into applying. Listen carefully to find out which positions are the best matches for your skills and experience.
