Student Work

student-work-In-the-Car-ReproductionThe Mountain View College art studio experience is comprised of professional artists with Masters of Fine Art degrees instructing students in the fundamentals of drawing, design, painting, ceramics, photography and/or sculpture. Small class sizes encourage a solid interaction with both the instructor and fellow students. With level I courses, no previous experience is required to enroll in a studio class. Art majors are encouraged to follow recommended prerequisites and also the suggested pathway in Art for transfer to a four-year institution.

Part of the MVC art studio experience is the regular exhibition of work, both informally and formally. Studio students present their progression of work informally throughout the semester with pop up exhibits around campus and in the Kiva Gallery. Also in the Kiva Gallery, students are encouraged to submit their best work in the League for Innovation Pre-Qualifying Student Art Competition at the end of each spring and fall semester. From these two competitions, up to ten MVC studio students are selected to participate in the Annual National League for Innovation Art Exhibition held at Mountain View College in the Cliff Gallery each January.

Also, annually, one student is selected to represent MVC as the Fordham Scholar for Excellence in Art, where the awardee is given a scholarship to continue their studies in art at a four-year institution.
