Dr. Uichung “Francis” Cho

Uichung "Francis" Cho is a mechanical engineer with specializations in rapid prototyping; 3D printing; robotics; system design with electrical, optical and mechanical components; and virtual reality. He received his bachelor's and master's degrees in mechanical engineering from Yonsei University in Seoul, South Korea, and Ph.D. in mechanical engineering from the University of Texas at Austin. Before Dr. Cho came to Austin, he developed and implemented four robotic automation cells at the prestigious Korean national research center (KIST) for companies including Hyundai Motors and Samsung Electronics. He has been with Mountain View College since May of 2014. 

Professional experience includes working as a senior engineering manager at LG Electronics and engineering director at Hitachi-LG Data Storage, an international company with factories in China and Japan and R&D in Japan, South Korea and the U.S., for more than seven years. He led more than 20 qualification projects for Dell, managing hardware and firmware engineers, and collaborated with quality and production engineers to improve line and field quality. He also initiated and conducted more than 20 special projects to improve processes and products for Dell.

He co-founded VoRo Technology, LLC, developing virtual reality systems for rehab and sports training using zCAM, Soft Kinect and MESA Camera. Applying the technologies of VoRo, he co-founded a new venture, i3Deas, to develop augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR), mainly for education markets.  

Dr. Cho has delivered more than 100 business and technical presentations, and published numerous articles on engineering Journals, proceedings and books. He also has several patents on 3D printing and human interface. He is an innovative educator and entrepreneur who continuously integrates his experiences with emerging technology.
