“I first became interested in the Business Administration program at North Lake College because it fit so many needs I had at the time. It was convenient to my work location, the tuition was affordable, and the courses offered allowed me to become a better supervisor, which was the position I held when I began the program. The best part of my DCCCD experience was the support and encouragement I received from my instructors.
“My DCCCD education was just the start of my educational journey. After graduating from North Lake, I concentrated on work full-time for about four years, then completed my undergraduate and master’s degrees in 2000 and 2003, respectively, and am currently pursuing a second master’s degree in project management.
“The most important thing I learned in my DCCCD education was a sense of accomplishment and purpose, and that nothing is impossible as long as I am willing to expend the effort to reach my goals. I have been promoted a number of times in recent years, into positions of more and more responsibility as a direct result of my education.
“I also teach part-time at North Lake — again, not possible without the start I received at DCCCD. I would recommend any DCCCD college, especially North Lake, to anyone who wishes to start their educational journey, update or upgrade their skills, or just learn something new.”
Tammy White attended Richland College for a year and then earned an associate degree in Business Administration in 1995 from North Lake College, where she was inducted into Phi Theta Kappa, the community college academic honor society. She went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in business administration, graduating summa cum laude from LeTourneau University in 2000, and a master’s degree in business administration from SMU in 2003.
As a project manager for Verizon Telecom, she handles internal customer IT-related projects that support Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) compliance, including absenteeism reporting, disability vendor management and certification history. She has also served as project manager for updates to the tracking system and for the development of a new application for the entire company (with approximately 250,000 employees) to replace legacy absence management and time-reporting applications.
