Level I Certificates
A certificate program is a group of courses that, when combined, provide you with a marketable skill in the job market. Certificate programs are approved by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board as programs, and students must officially finish the program to receive the certificate in that program.
Certificate Programs are part of the Career and Technical Program offerings. In order to be awarded a certificate, you must complete all program course requirements with a grade point average of 2.00 ("C") or better. Only the grades for the specific courses required in the certificate program will be used in calculating the GPA to determine eligibility for these awards.
For any degree or certificate earned in the college a student must earn at least 25% of the credit hours required for graduation through instruction (not credit-by-examination) by the college of the DCCCD granting the award.
Certificate and associate degree Career and Technical programs are designed for you to complete within one or two years.

Certificates of Completion/AAFES only
A certificate of completion may be issued after you successfully finish an individual course or a group of courses.
Certificates of completion are awarded by the college and are not considered “programs” by the state, since they do not meet the program hour guidelines. The courses may provide you with a marketable skill leading to employment or further employment opportunities.
