70% of public school students are economically disadvantaged.

Early Childhood

  • birth to third grade
  • There are more than 230,000 children in Dallas County who are between the ages of 0 and 5.
  • Only 1 in 7 early childhood facilites have any type of quality ranking.

Grades 4-12

  • There are more than 460,000 K-12 students in Dallas County.
  • By fourth grade, only 1 in 3 students read at grade level.
  • 5,000 students fail to graduate from high school every year.
  • The lifetime cost to our region for each class of high school dropouts is $5 billion.

Higher Education and Workforce

  • There are more than 180,000 higher education students in Dallas County.
  • Only 13% of high school students graduate ready for college.
    • For black and Hispanic students, the number is closer to 4%.
  • Fewer than 50% of higher education students graduate with degrees.
