List of VA Programs by enlistment date
Chapter 35 (Dependents) - Dependents and survivors of certain Veterans who have serious disabilities as a result of their service, (100% disabled), or who have died of a service connected cause, a prisoner of war, or missing in action.
Chapter 32 (VEAP) - Enlisted in service on active duty on or after January 1, 1977, and Before July 1, 1985; contributed between $25. and $100. each month while on active duty up to a maximum of $2700. with 2-for-1 matching funds from the government.
Section 901 (Noncontributory test program) - Enlisted or reenlisted after Sept. 30, 1980, and before October 1, 1981.
Section 903 (Noncontributory VEAP) - Enlisted or reenlisted after Nov. 30,1980 and before October 1, 1981.
Chapter 30 (Montgomery GI Bill, Active) - Enlisted into Active duty (not reserves) after June 30, 1985 and contributed $100 per month for the first 12 months of Active service.
Chapter 1606 (Montgomery GI Bill, Reservists/National Guard) - Any person who enlist, reenlists, or extends an enlistment, in the Selective Reserve (or a Texas National Guard) for not less than 6 years.
Chapter 1607 - It is a new Department of Defense education benefit program designed to provide educational assistance to members of the Reserve components called or ordered to active duty in response to a war or national emergency (contingency operation) as declared by the President or Congress. This new program makes certain reservists who were activated for at least 90 days after September 11, 2001 either eligible for education benefits or eligible for increased benefits.
Chapter 31 (Vocational rehabilitation) - Any veteran of WW II or thereafter who has a service- connected disability which entitles him or her to VA disability and who is in need of vocational rehabilitation because of the disability - prior approval from the Waco VA Vocational Rehabilitation required.
Hazelwood (Texas Veterans Act) - The State of Texas provides a tuition and fee exemption for any student who:
- was resident of Texas at the time of entry into active duty & has lived in Texas for the last 12 months prior to the application for the Hazelwood Act, and
- was honorably discharged from the military or general discharge under honorable conditions or honorable release from activity duty, and
- has exhausted, or is not entitled to any VA or federal educational benefits (ie., GI Bill, Pell Grant etc.), and
- served at least 180 days of active military duty excluding training. (reservist normally do not qualify).
