Crime Prevention
The Police Department is available to conduct Crime Prevention Programs for all staff and faculty members, student orientations, and staff development programs. A crime prevention officer is available upon request to provide classroom presentations on various crime-related issues such as date rape, domestic violence, workplace violence, and personal safety. Crime prevention brochures are available at the Police Department, room W135. A primary goal of the Police Department is to maintain a safe and suitable learning environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors.

Emergency Call Boxes
College Police Department strongly encourages each person on campus to take note of the location of the emergency push button call boxes and orange emergency call boxes, exits, and office locations so that immediate assistance may be obtained easily during emergencies.
 
Please be familiar with the college and constantly be aware of your surroundings. Please keep books, backpacks, and other valuables safely in hand at all time. The Call boxes in parking lots are marked with blue lights and when activated, will contact the officers on duty.
 
  • Red push button call boxes are located throughout the interior of the campus hallways for summoning campus police officers.
  • Blue and white call boxes are located around the exterior of the campus, the athletics complex, and jogging trail.

Emergency Procedures - English
SYNOPSIS OF EMERGENCY PROCEDURES
 
FIRE

Alarm: A loud chirping sound and flashing lights signal a fire.

  • Take all personal items and evacuate the building at the nearest exit.
  • Assist handicapped individuals out of the building.
  • Do not use elevators.
  • Move away from the building at least 300 feet.
  • Re-enter the building only after signaled by the Campus Police.
TORNADO
 
Campus Police will announce over the building intercoms or telephones to seek shelter.  This alert also may be given by the sound of a siren using one continuous blast of bullhorns.
Take personal items and proceed to the following emergency areas or to foyers that are shaded in green on the map mounted on the classroom or work area walls:
 
EMERGENCY AREAS (lower levels of the West and East Buildings):  W45, W43, W41, W48, W49, W56, W57, W58, W59, W61, W63, W74, E03, E04, E25A, E36, E37, E38
 
Seek Shelter in the lower level of the since building in any of the rooms on the west side of the building.
WEAPONS

Dial 214-860-8758 from any outside phone or cell phone or 8758 from any campus office phone and give the officer all information requested.
Start immediate evacuation of the area.
Do not approach the person or inquire about the weapon under any circumstance.

CHEMICAL SPILL

Notify all individuals in the area.  Leave the area immediately and take all personal items.

Call the Campus Police at 214-860-8758 from any outside phone or cell phone or 8758 from any campus office phone safely away from the chemical spill and give all requested information.

  • Attempt to secure the area.
  • Keep others out of the area.
HOSTAGE SITUATION

Dial 214-860-8758 from any outside phone or cell phone or 8758 from any campus office phone.
 
  • Give police officers all information requested.
  • Alert others in the immediate area of the danger.
  • Evacuate through the safest exit possible.
  • If you can evacuate safely, close and lock the door and stay
  • in your work area until the proper authority exclaims “ALL CLEAR”.
  • If you are take hostage, cooperate with the individual.
MEDICAL EMERGENCY
Send someone to call 9-911 in a life- threatening emergency from any campus office phone to contact Dallas City Emergency.  Dial 214-860-8758 from any outside phone or cell phone or 8758 from any campus office to contact campus police.
Render Aid:  Check breathing; if necessary, give CPR, Attempt to stop excessive bleeding.

While at work, watch for weather reports via e-mail.

REPORTING CRIME

Dial 214.860.8758 or dial 8758 from any campus phone.
What to Report to the Campus Police:
  • If property is missing or stolen
  • You are threaten/verbally abused
  • You are assaulted
  • You have been injured or exposed to blood
  • You witnessed or have knowledge of: theft, vandalism, threats, arguments, verbal abuse, drugs, and traffic accidents/violations/speeding
  • Security Issues:  trip hazards, electrical hazards, inoperative doors/outdoor lighting, parking hazards, suspicious activity, disruptive students, locked/malfunctioning doors, fire hazards.
BOMB THREAT
  • Keep the caller on the line
  • Ask the caller for pertinent information.  Complete bomb questionnaire (see below)
QUESTIONNAIRE
  1. Record all information from the caller.
  2. Note all background noises.
  3. Note all characteristics of the caller’s voice.
  4. Does the voice sound familiar?
  5. Note the time/date call received.
  6. Record number on the caller ID
  7. Record number/extension the call was received on.
  8. After the caller hangs up, dial 214-860-8758 and give the information requested.
  9. Close all windows and doors in the area.
  10. Evacuate the building at the nearest exit and take necessary personal items.
  11. Go to a Safe zone.
  12. Do not re-enter the building until permitted by the proper authority.

SINOPSIS DE PROCEDIMIENTOS DE EMERGENCIAS
INCENDIOS

• Alarmas- Un sonido fuerte con luces parpareando significa incendio/fuego.
• Asegure de llevarse todas sus articulos personales y evacuar el edificio por la salida mas cercana.
• Ayude a los invalidos a evacuar el edificio.
• No use elevadores.
• Retirese del edificio tansiquiera 300 pies.
• Entre al edificio despues de que un Policia le notifique que todo esta bien y seguro.

• Policias timbraran una sirena por todo el edificio.

• Intente de asagurar el area.

SITUACION DE SECUESTRADOR

• Alerte a otros immediatamente del area del peligro.

Hostile Intruder Guidelines

 

HOSTILE INTRUDER IN A BUILDING


When a hostile person(s) is actively causing death or serious bodily injury or the Threat of imminent death or serious bodily injury to staff, faculty and/or students Within a building, we recommend the following:


• While this guide refers primarily to academic areas of the building, it should be understood that these informational guidelines are also relevant to administrative areas and other common buildings on campus.
  
• Faculty should immediately lock students and themselves in the classroom.  If
possible cover any windows or openings that have a direct line of sight into
the hallway.  Barricade the doors with desks, tables, chairs, etc.

• If communications are available, call 8758 from any campus phone, or using a cellular phone, call 214.860.8758 to contact the Campus Police Department.  If no one answers, stay on the phone your call will roll over to the Central Police Dispatch at Brookhaven College.  Inform the dispatchers as to the hostile situation, they will notify Mountain View College Police via two way radio.

• Do not sound the fire alarm.  A fire alarm would signal the occupants to evacuate the building
And place them in potential harm as they attempted to exit.

• Lock the windows and close blinds or curtains.

• Stay away from windows.

• Turn off lights and all audio equipment.

• Keep everyone together.

• Keep classrooms secure until police arrive and give you directions.

• If you are not in a classroom, try to get to a classroom or an office.

• Stay out of open areas and be quite as possible.

• If for some reason you are caught in an open area such as a hallway or lounge,
you must decide what you are going to do.  This is a very crucial time and it can
possibly mean life or death.

The following information should be treated as highly important:

• You can try to hide, but make sure it is a space not easily discovered or you may be
Found as the hostile person(s) move through the building looking for victims.

• If you think you can safely make it out of the building by running, then do so.  If you
decide to run, do not run in a straight line.  Attempt to keep objects such as desks, cabinets, fixtures, etc., between you and the hostile person(s).  Once outside, do not run in a straight line.  Use trees, vehicles, and other objects to block you from be seen by the intruders(s).  When away from the immediate area
of danger, summon help anyway you can and warn others.

• If the person(s) are causing death or serious physical injury to others, and you are unable to run or hide,
you may choose to play dead if other victims are around you.

• You last option if you are caught in an open area in a building may be to fight back.  This option is dangerous, but depending on your situation, this could be your only option.

• If you are caught by the intruder and are not going to fight back, obey all commands and don’t look the intruder in the eyes.

• When police arrive, obey all commands given by them  (the officers may not know who you are).  This may Involve your being handcuffed, or you being asked to keep your hands in the air.  This is done for safety reasons.  Once the police evaluate circumstances, they will give you further directions to follow.


 HOSTILE INTRUDERS(S) ON CAMPUS GROUNDS


When a hostile person(s) is actively causing death or serious physical injury or the Threat of imminent death or serious physical injury to person(s) on Mountain View College grounds, we recommend the following:

• Run away from the threat if you can, as fast as you can.

• Do not run in a straight line.

• Use vehicles, bushes, trees, and anything that could possibly block you from being seen by the hostile person(s), while you are running.

• If you can get away from the immediate area of danger, summon help and warn others.

• If you decide to hide, take into consideration the area in which you are hiding.

• If the person(s) are causing death or serious physical injury to others and you are
unable to run or hide you may choose to play dead if other victims are around you.

• The last option you have if caught in an open area outside may be to fight back.  This
is dangerous, but depending on your situation, this could be your only option.

• If you are caught by the intruder and are not going to fight back, obey all commands and
don’t look the intruder in the eyes.
