 expandDo I have to make an appointment to meet with someone in the Dual Credit/Concurrent Enrollment office, or can I just walk-in?
 Walk-in’s are always welcome.  However, it would be to your benefit to establish an appointment to make sure that someone is available to meet with you. This will ensure one-on-one time so that all of your questions can be answered.
 expandDoes Mountain View provide transportation for my student from their High School?
 No, transportation is not provided.
 expandIs DC offered only at Mountain View?
 No, all of the colleges in the Dallas County Community College District offer Dual Credit. Please contact the campus you would like to attend for specific requirements, as each campus may be different.

 The Advising department can help you with general information, however, because Dual Credit/Concurrent Enrollment is a specialized program, it will probably be best for you to call and set up an appointment.

 expandWhat is Dual Credit Tab?
 
  • Dual Credit is an opportunity for Junior’s and Senior’s to get a jump start on a college degree. Dual Credit is a program that allows students to take 2 classes per semester, tuition waived!

    *Students who attend a school outside of Dallas County may be required to pay tuition. 
  • Dual Credit Courses are offered in a variety of subject areas including math, science, history, technology classes and government.

DC classes are taught either at the college or at the high school.

  • To be enrolled in the dual credit program, a high school student must:
    • Be enrolled in good standing in the 11th or 12th grade of a participating high school, private, charter or home school.
    • Have recommendation from a high school counselor
    • Fulfill appropriate admissions criteria to the college
    • Meet minimum test scores

Yes, most definitely.  All you have to do is give us a call and we can set something up.
 expandWill the student have to pay for anything?
 
Yes, students will be required to pay for their textbooks and any additional class requirements such as supplies, etc.
PROCEDURES
 expandHow do I enroll?
 1. How to enroll
  • You must first review your eligibility requirements for the program with your school counselor.  The counselor will advise you of the courses designated as dual credit are your school.  Next you must:
    • Complete a Mountain View Admissions Application at the time of your first appointment.  If you have an admissions application that you have picked up at your school, complete it and bring it to the Dual Credit office.
    • Complete all items listed on the Dual Credit/Concurrent Enrollment Checklist (link to this form)
    • Take and pass the required test(s)

Students who wish to withdraw from the college credit portion of the course must follow college drop/withdrawal procedure and deadline.

To enroll in college courses, students must present a passing score on the Accuplacer or Texas Higher Education Assessment (THEA).
 
The following are the minimum test scores for students to be accepted in the Dual Credit program:
  • TAKS (exit level):  2200 in math and/or English language arts with a writing score of 3 or 4
  • SAT: 500 verbal, 500 math, 1070 composite
  • SAT II: 500 reading, 500 math,  1070 composite
  • ACT: 19 verbal, 19 math, 23 composite
  • ACCUPLACER: 78 reading, 80+ verbal with 5+ on essay, 69/64 college algebra
  • THEA: 230 reading, 220 writing, 270 math
