Mission Statement
Faculty members of the Department of Sociology at Mountain View College strive to enable students to think holistically about behavioral and social processes, to understand, appreciate and respect diversity, and to prepare students for a variety of educational pursuits. The student learning outcomes focus on sociology as a science, the development of effective speaking and writing skills, and to encourage critical thinking.  Emphasis is placed on applied sociology, and how applying the scientific approach to understanding social behavior is beneficial to all.

Department Description
The Sociology Department at Mountain View College offers a variety of courses to provide freshman and sophomore students the foundation needed to understand society from several different theoretical perspectives.  More so, the department is committed to encouraging critical thinking, creative writing, collaborative learning, public speaking, and computer literacy skills to promote life-long learning.
