Students who wish to enroll in courses that require college-level reading or writing skills must take assessment tests in these areas. For students who do not demonstrate college readiness on the assessment tests, many levels of reading, and writing developmental courses are offered to enable students to complete the prerequisites for college-level courses and to satisfy Texas Success Initiative (TSI) requirements.

Developmental education courses provide students with the skills and confidence necessary to succeed in college-level courses and are listed in the catalogue as DREA for developmental reading and DWRI for developmental writing. Developmental courses are numbered 0100 and below. These courses carry institutional credit but do not count toward a degree or certificate.
